School Counselor/Psychologist

St Constantine International School is searching for a School Counselor/Psychologist.

Role Reports to: Headteacher/School Principal

The School Counselor/Psychologist is responsible for the pastoral, emotional and well-being of all SCIS students, in particular those who cannot be catered for by a teacher and/or other staff. They are responsible for supporting the work of teachers and ensuring that student well-being is of utmost importance.

The School Counselor/Psychologist is expected to:

  • Promote and contribute to the school’s aims (mission, vision, values, policies).
  • Promote a positive school culture that is happy, purposeful and productive.
  • Work with the School Strategic Plan (establish priorities and targets for their subject and monitor the progress).
  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Encourage consultation and discussion with staff.
  • Liaise effectively between teachers, tutors, admin, managers and leaders.
  • Support students, teachers and other school employees.
  • Promote the department.
  • Communicate effectively with parents.
  • Contribute to the staff induction process.
  • Encourage high standards in all aspects of school life.
  • Undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required.

Responsibilities:

The School Counselor/Psychologist will:

  • Establish a relationship of trust and respect with students and all members of the SCIS community.
  • Constantly refine their practice by looking at professional development opportunities
  • Promote a working atmosphere that encourages cooperation and values the contribution that individuals make to the school.
  • Work with the Leadership team in policy development and implementation (e.g. Behaviour Policy, Bullying Policy etc).
  • Encourage students and the SCIS community to talk about issues they feel they cannot normally share with others.
  • Actively listen to student, staff and parents concerns and empathise with their position.
  • Listen without bias the issues raised by students and the SCIS community.
  • Help students and the SCIS community towards a deeper understanding of their concerns.
  • Challenge any inconsistencies in what students and the SCIS community say or do.
  • Be part of the Safeguarding team and act in line with the Safeguarding Policy.
  • Help students and the SCIS community to make decisions and choices regarding possible ways forward.
  • Refer students and the SCIS community to other sources of help, as appropriate. Follow up if necessary on recommendations.
  • Forge good working relationships with external consultants.
  • Attend and deliver training courses related to Counselling, when necessary.
  • Liaise, as necessary, with the School Leadership Team to help make changes based on the issues raised by students and the SCIS community.
  • Identify, create, implement and work to agreed targets in relation to students.
  • Support the Admissions Officer with the admissions process, identifying any issues that the school may not be able to cater for, when required.
  • Work within and with the Learning Support Unit.
  • Undertake group as well as individual activities on occasions.
  • Keep records and use reporting tools. These should only be shared with the Headteacher and the School Leadership Team.
  • Undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required.

Experience:

  • Experience as a counsellor in a work setting is preferable.
  • Experience as a counsellor in a school setting is preferable.
  • Qualified with a bachelor’s degree, ideally with a Master’s degree in psychology.
