The East African Community is a regional intergovernmental organization comprising the Republic of Burundi, the Republic of Kenya, the Republic of Rwanda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Republic of South Sudan and the Republic of Uganda with its Headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.
The EAC mission is to widen and deepen economic, political, social and cultural integration to improve the quality of life of the people of East Africa through increased competitiveness, value added production, trade and investments.

PRINCIPAL HEALTH OFFICER (1 post)

Duty Station : Arusha, Tanzania
Main purpose of the Job:
Coordinate Health Sector Activities for East African Community (EAC).
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement regional health policies based on the provisions outlined in the relevant sections of the Treaty for the establishment of the East African Community (EAC), in consultation with the Partner States.
- Coordinate various activities of the following four (4) standing EAC Technical Working Groups (TWGs) responsible for handling detailed health matters under the EAC Sectoral Committee on Health:
- Technical Working Group on the Control and Prevention of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and HIV / AIDS;
- Technical Working Group on the Control and Prevention of Communicable and Non-Communicable Diseases;
- Technical Working Group on Health Research, Policy and Health Systems Development; and
- Technical Working Group on Reproductive, Child, Adolescent Health and Nutrition
- Mobilize technical, financial and other resources for various regional health sector initiatives, projects and programmes in the East African Community.
- Organize and convene Regional Health Sector Meetings, workshops and conferences.
- Prepare background papers and reports for meetings and workshops.
- Work closely and in joint collaboration with the relevant technical experts and teams in the implementation of health related initiatives, projects and programmes within the existing institutions of the Community and any other as may be established from time to time.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual progress reports on all health sector activities for submission to the relevant EAC Policy Organs and Institutions as per EAC Procedures and Protocol;
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by Management.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A Medical Doctor with a clinical and/or public health specialization; and ten (10) years relevant working experience with 5 years at senior level .
Skills and Competencies:
Must be able to provide strategic and team leadership in health matters; manage diversity, conflict and change; have Conceptual, Analytical, collaboration, networking Communication, Public Relations, Planning , Judgment, decision making, report writing and presentation skills. He/She must be Computer literate.

Terms and Conditions of Service:
The above position is tenable for a contract of five (5) years renewable once .
This position is subject to the application of the Quota System .

Education Qualifications:
All candidates applying must have qualifications that are recognized by the relevant national accreditation body in their respective Partner State. This condition is applicable for locally and internationally attained qualifications.
All professions that require registration with the specific professional bodies will be expected to do so in compliance with the requirements of their respective Partner States.
Relevant Working Experience:
Internship, training and apprenticeship will not be considered as relevant work experience.
