Job Position Financial Controller at Bank Of Africa Tanzania
Mission:
- Responsible for the financial health of a company or organization. Producing financial reports and developing strategies based on financial research. Guiding senior executives in making sound business decisions in the long and short term.
Scope of Duties:
- To control and direct the financial accounting functions of the Bank ensuring reports generated are in accordance with the Bank’s guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Financial analysis of the bank’s performance and preparation of reports thereof. Produce and manage reports required for management, financial, regulatory, statutory and ALCO reporting.
- Ensure that the bank’s taxation affairs are planned and managed so as to optimise the bank’s position. Interacts with Tax Authorities, service providers and municipal authorities.
- Monitor the bank’s operating base costs and highlight factors impacting effective cost management, thus contributing towards the achievement of a low-cost business environment. Ensures expenditure of financial resources managed within budgetary constraints and implements reporting and control mechanisms to address deviations.
- Review the maintenance of an efficient and integrated accounting system with appropriate internal financial controls. Contribute to the overall financial management of information systems (not just reporting requirements) including the planning. budgeting, project approval and execution of the new systems.
- Assist risk and compliance unit in coordinating, driving and directing effective compliance and operational risk management at the business unit level. Implement controls within the Business unit to meet all regulatory and internal requirements.
- Ensure proper functioning of day-to-day controls, periodic monitoring and timely resolution of risk issues. Drive full implementation and adherence to Financial Controls Policy across the Bank.
- Design and implement control measures and monitoring plans for compliance and operational risk management. Ensure effectiveness of controls for compliance monitoring and risk management.
- Liaise with external Auditors and ensure that external audit is facilitated without any audit qualifications.
- Undertake and/or coordinate periodic business monitoring (self-assessment) activities within the Business Unit and escalate findings and or breaches to Business Unit Head and risk and compliance, when they occur.
- Ensures strong supplier relationships are maintained through effective communication and interaction.
- Manage all staffing matters for the development including allocation of duties, training. development, objective setting and annual performance appraisals

Technical Know-How
- Good knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Strong analytical and numerical skills.
- Good communication skills – both written and verbal.
- A keen eye for detail and desire to probe further into data.
- Excellent computer skills especially in working with excel formulas and functions for financial modelling.
- Displays strong management and organizational skills.
- Displays strong interpersonal skills.
- Has competencies in Microsoft Suite of Software (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
- Business acumen.
Skills, knowledge, abilities/competencies:
- A 1st university degree in either Commerce, Finance, Statistics or Accounting
- Professional qualification such as ACCA, CPA, CFA, CISA, or CIMA is a must.
- 5 Years experience in Accounting and Financial section
