About Tengeru Institute of Community Development (TICD)
Tengeru Institute of Community Development (TICD) is an independent public institution run by the Ministry of Community Development Gender, Women, and Special Groups. The Institute is on the slopes of Mount Meru, 16 kilometers from the center of Arusha. It is 2.5 kilometers south of the Arusha-Moshi-Dar es Salaam highway. The weather where the Institute is located makes it a great place to learn. With a lot of trees, which is typical of the North-Eastern highlands of Tanzania, and a cool breeze from Mt. Meru, the place is one of the best places to learn in the country.
From the Institute, 65 km to the east, you can see the famous Kilimanjaro Mountain, which is the highest point in Africa.
Extreme weather happens in the area, with very low temperatures (sometimes as low as 9 degrees C at night) from June to August after the heavy rains of March to May, and hot, dusty weather from December to February after the rains of October to November. So, all the precautions that are needed should be taken to deal with these extremes.
