Gauteng Phase 2 Online Applications to close 08 october 2021: The Gauteng Department of Basic Education (DBE) has praised parents for their efforts to register their children for the 2022 academic year before Friday’s October 8 deadline.

The second phase of the online applications for Grade 1 and Grade 8 opened at the end of September.

Gauteng DBE spokesperson Steve Mabona says the hybrid approach used by the department has been successful, as parents and guardians were allowed to apply online. If they did have challenges with internet connectivity, they could visit one of the 45 walk-in centres in the province.

Mabona says that the walk-in centres have been quiet and that demonstrates to the department that many people have used the online method.

He said “we didn’t have a sizable number of people going to our offices so most of them managed to interact with the system. They applied in the system and they were quite indebted to them hence we have already said that we are now preparing for the placement period because we will start on the 15th of October”.

More than 270 000 applications were received by the department during the second phase of the online addmission system. Mabona explains that the online system helps the department plan ahead and ensure that there is enough space for learners at schools.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to apply before the system closes on Friday. They must also upload the documents listed below onto the system or deliver them to the schools at which they have applied within seven days of submitting their application:

1. Parent and child ID or passport
2. Your South African Birth Certificate
3. Proof of Home Address
4. Proof of Work Address
5. Latest School Report
6. Clinic Card/Immunization Card (Grade 1 only)
