Applications are welcomed from young Africans for the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) Fellowship for the 2021 cohort.

The Programme aims to make available practical, on-the-job experience to the young professionals as they prepare either for a career in research and international development and the public service. It will also afford the candidate the opportunity to familiarize with the Commission’s broad programmes and services to member States and sub-regional bodies in addressing the social dimensions of Africa’s development.

United Nations Economic Commission for Africa Fellowship 2021  DETAILS

The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) is the regional arm of the United Nations in Africa saddled with the mandate of promoting the economic and social development of Africa. ECA seeks to engage bright young Africans for skills and capacity development, training and mentorship through a fellowship programme within ECA’s work programme. This initiative is in line with the Commission’s effort to assist member States develop their capacities in economic and social policy research, development, implementation, analysis, governance, monitoring and evaluation.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be below the age of 35 years at the time of application.
  • Applicants must possess advance university degree (Master’s degree or doctorate or their equivalents) in eligible areas.
  • Applicants must possess academic research or academic work related to the focus thematic areas.
  • Fluency in either English or French is required as they are the two working languages of the Commission.

Eligible Areas:

  • International affairs, Development, Diplomacy, Economics, Political and Social Sciences, Development, Peace and
  • Human Security, Public Administration, Law, Minerals and Natural Resources, Engineering, and related field.

How-to-Apply: Interested applicants for the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa Fellowship are to submit their PHPs and the following documents as attachments to RecruitmentPPost@un.org:

  • UN Personal History Profile (PHP). This can be created by visiting the portal. Follow the directions to create your
  • PHP; save the draft as a PDF, and include the PDF as an attachment with your email.
  • A research proposal of not less than 1000 words
  • Copy of academic certificates.
  • Copy of applicant’s national passport (information page only)
  • Three letters of reference/recommendation
