The digital communications officer will be responsible for planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating the online communication strategy with a focus on social media management, campaign implementation and coordination of partners. S/he will support the sourcing, design, production, sharing and archiving of high-quality digital media assets developed as part of UNICEF Tanzania’s Communication Strategy; supporting the rollout, development and maintenance of UNICEF website and social media channels in Tanzania; development and maintenance of the digital media platforms in accordance with an innovative, clear, inclusive and interactive approach respectful of gender. S/he will be required to provide strategic thinking and build on market intelligence to create powerful content for UNICEF platforms. Additionally, the officer will also be tasked with creating partnerships and mobilizing UNICEF Tanzania’s online celebrity influencers on key priorities for strategic advocacy and visibility for child rights issues.

Duties And Tasks

  • Manage and lead on digital content production across all of UNICEF Tanzania’s social media platforms and website. Identify opportunities for content amplification on global channels and share insights and learnings from the Insights for Impact project.
  • Produce creative advocacy and communication materials (e.g. info graphs, images, videos, Facebook posts, tweets, photo galleries, social media packages, etc.) for digital platforms, printing and other purposes that meet UNICEF standards.
  • Ensure that the production of communication products and materials for social media channels and other digital platforms is timely executed and followed up to support country online communication strategy, regional and global campaigns and priorities and to support resource mobilization as set out in the work plan.
  • Develop, draft and edit content for social media that meets UNICEF standards. Keep UNICEF’s social media channels up-to-date following UNICEF corporate guidelines and taking into account the branding strategy. Ensure UNICEF Tanzania’s website is updated and reflects the work at the country office level.
  • Identify, develop, manage and cultivate partnerships with celebrity and online influencers on key priorities for strategic advocacy and visibility for child rights issues and provide them with key advocacy materials and guidance.
  • Establish or maintain an up-to-date documentation center for communication materials including publications photographs, audio-visual materials, web resources and share images selectively, in consultation with the supervisor, with external media, partners, the Regional Office and HQ.
  • Recommend appropriate information and communication materials for use on social media platforms.
  • Recommend established contacts, networks, resources and processes to support online communication activities.
  • Monitor the public perception of UNICEF on digital platforms and recommend appropriate action to maintain a positive image for the organization and support to the issues it promotes. For this the use of social media analytic/listening tools will be required.
  • Undertake lessons learned review of successful and unsuccessful communication experiences as directed by supervisor.
  • Review best practices in using social media platforms to engage younger segments of the population.
  • Support effective linkages and consistency across messaging with U-Report, IoGT, VoY blog.
  • Monitor results of social media advocacy campaigns and produce monthly analytics reports.
  • Provide analytics reports and provide recommendations on tactics to improve UNICEF’s digital presence
  • Keep track of activities of other UN agencies, development partners, and non-profit partners, identifying content for amplification

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Proven extensive experience in managing social media platforms including, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube required
  • Experience in video filming, video editing and photography required
  • Strong social copy-editing skills
  • Demonstrated success in planning and implementing effective social media campaigns to achieve advocacy goals
  • Ability to translate technical and nuanced information into clear, emotional and engaging content for broad public audiences Proven experience of building and cultivating relationships with external partners
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of social media trends
  • Experience in obtaining and reporting on social media analytics
  • Proven knowledge on digital content development
  • At least 2 years work experience on social media and digital content development
  • Very good communications skills
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks without compromising quality
  • Interpersonal skills, team spirit and positive working relationships
  • Experience in working with the UN, UNICEF or with International NGOs an asset
