BACKGROUND

Established in 1948, The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) is a membership Union composed of both government and civil society organisations. It harnesses the experience, resources and reach of its more than 1,300 Member organizations and the input of more than 10,000 experts. IUCN is the global authority on the status of the natural world and the measures needed to safeguard it. IUCN has had its operations in Tanzania for more than four decades working with many partners and supporters to implement a large and diverse portfolio of conservation projects ranging from management of protected areas, forest ecosystems, coastal resources, aquatic ecosystems and climate change resilience.

IUCN Tanzania is seeking a Programme Officer – Sustainable Agriculture to support the SUSTAIN Pro Programme.

JOB DESCRIPTION
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES;

Under direct supervision of the Programme Manager – SUSTAIN II (and Water for Landscape Manager), the Programme Officer – Sustainable Agriculture will support the overall implementation of SUSTAIN Pro at landscape level to ensure the promotion, adoption and institutionalization of sustainable agriculture tools and practices in the SAGCOT corridor.

SPECIFIC DUTIES;

More specifically, the roles and responsibilities of the Programme Officer – Sustainable Agriculture(Mbarali) – include:
Support the technical and financial management of the SUSTAIN Pro Programme
Provide technical backstopping to project partners and other project stakeholders to support timely achievement of targets, results and deliverables
Deliver on technical reporting as per donor and IUCN guidelines and requirements
Provide support to the implementation of SUSTAIN Eco programme as assigned by the Line Manager
Establish linkages with other relevant projects in the landscape to increase synergies and complementary.
Support networking with key development partners, Government institutions and NGOs to support project implementation
Support the documentation, collation, storage and packaging of project information
Support exchange and sharing of knowledge and lessons learned from the project
Update the projects on the IUCN portal with relevant project data
Organize and facilitate project events – meetings, workshops, field visits and related activities
Represent IUCN at meetings as may be required
Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time

REQUIREMENTS
Education;

Minimum Bachelor Degree in a relevant discipline, including agriculture, agribusiness, agricultural economics, business administration, or related fields.
Knowledge of issues related to sustainable agriculture, climate change, will be an added advantage.
Computer literacy in relation to office applications (word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint) use of internet and online communication tools

• Work Experience;
At least five years of professional experience in sustainable agriculture, agribusiness or in sustainable development.
Solid knowledge of policy issues on sustainable agriculture, agribusiness or related themes
Practical experience in leading / supporting the implementation of field projects including on sustainable agriculture
Experience in creating and facilitating dialogues, partnerships and synergies;
Experience in the working with farmers groups, input suppliers, processors and other value chain actors
Computer literacy in relation to office applications (word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint) use of internet and online communication tools;

• Fluency in English and Kiswahili (both written and verbal).

Willing to travel and work in rural areas frequently within Tanzania
