Call for application for a scholarship for Masters in Aquatic Sciences (Thesis)

The Department of Aquaculture Technology in the School of Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Technology (SoAF) of the University of Dar es Salaam invites applications from Tanzanians to apply for a scholarship for M.Sc. in Aquatic Sciences (Thesis). DAT is implementing a two-year project titled “Establishment of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) and African sharptooth catfish (Clarias gariepinus) breeding program for providing better seeds to the fish farmers” in Tanzania under

UNESCO-TWAS programme “Seed Grant for African Principal Investigators” funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The project aims at

implementing breeding programs for Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) and African sharptooth catfish (Clarias gariepinus) and capacity building through postgraduate education and research. M.Sc. research project will focus on providing the basic information for the establishment of African sharptooth catfish breeding program by investigating genetic diversity and structure for populations cultured in Tanzania. This is a full scholarship and will be granted to one student for up to two years. Therefore, students with research interests in aquaculture genetics are highly encouraged to apply.

Application procedure

The application must consist of a) A CV (maximum 2 pages), b) Letters of reference from two academic referees, c) A letter of motivation explaining why you are interested in the project (maximum 1 page), d) A bachelor degree certificate and e) A confirmation of UDSM admission.

The deadline for submission of applications is 25th March 2022. 

The selected applicant will be required to start immediately. Applications should be submitted electronically to the Head, Department of Aquaculture Technology through dat.soaf@udsm.ac.tz with a copy to Dr. Redempta Kajungiro (rakajungiro@udsm.ac.tz).
