RDP house application form 2024

The South African government gives RDP houses to people who qualify for the Subsidised Housing program. Beneficiaries of the program can buy a home with help from the government. As part of the Reconstruction and Development Programme (RDP), this Subsidised Housing program was started in 1994. The goal of the program was to fix the huge social and economic problems that had been caused by the apartheid era. Also, to make up for the government’s lack of social services across the country by using tax money for development projects, which would boost the economy.

Who Qualifies for an RDP House?

Even though there have been a lot of problems with the Housing Subsidy program, such as widespread corruption, the government has kept working to quickly replace the shacks that are common in townships so that low-income families, homeless families, and people with disabilities can have a better quality of life. For a person to be eligible for a government-subsidized house, they must meet the National Housing Subsidy Scheme criteria, which are listed below.

Those who want to live in an RDP house must:

  • A South African citizen or someone with a permit to live there permanently.
  • A first-time government subsidy recipient
  • Having a monthly household income of less than R3,500. This means that the total monthly income of a household with two people shouldn’t be more than R3,500.
  • At least 21 years old
  • To sign a contract, you must be mentally fit.
  • To be eligible to buy a vacant service site, you must not have owned a fixed home.
  • Married or living with a partner or single and have dependents (children must not necessarily be your own) (children must not necessarily be your own)

Note: Seniors and veterans who are single and don’t support anyone else financially can apply for an RDP house.
