Job Position Occupational Health & Safety First Line Leader At Barrick – North Mara Gold Mine LTD
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
North Mara Gold Mine Limited is seeking to recruit one (01) Occupational Health and Safety First Line Leader to join North Mara team. The successful candidate for this position will provide support to, North Mara Underground Team to ensure that Safety Objectives are met and are associated with the business plans and that all Safety Programs are implemented in accordance with Barrick Safety Standards and Best Practices as well as other assigned tasks within the range of competencies.

Contract Duration: Permanent
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assisting in the implementation of the NMGML Occupational Health and Safety Management System at North Mara Mine to both Underground and Open pit Operations.
- Assisting the implementation of ISO 45001:2018 standard at NMGML and participate in maintenance auditing.
- Ensure Legal compliance to Tanzanian laws and regulations related to OHS.
- Ensure employee well ness by implementing Industrial Hygiene monitoring programs and guarantee safety of employee’s exposure to occupational health related risks.
- Assisting the OHS Superintendent to ensure all North Mara Mine activities comply with the requirements of the Company Safety and Health Standards and any applicable legislative requirements.
- Ensure implementation of contractor Management System is in place by conducting contractor evaluation audits to comply with OHS Management system.
- Ensure the implementation of nine element of Barrick Safety & Health Management System at North Mara Mine.
- Actively lead and facilitate the review of Baseline/Formal Risk Assessment, JHA, FLRA processes and promote a risk management culture at North Mara Mine.
- Ensure Safety Trainer Officers are conducting regular safety inspections within all areas of the mine site including facilities manned by contractors.
- Conduct and take a lead in accident / incident investigations with the relevant supervisors.
- Facilitate accident/incident investigations as required by using company approved incident investigation analysis methodologies.
- Ensuring all Safety and Health lead indicators (trainings, PTOs, Risk Assessments, and SOP reviews) are maintained and implemented all time.
- Provide daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly operational reports to OHS Superintendent.
- Prepare safety statistics on a weekly, monthly and annually basis and report trends.
- Conduct regular safety observations to determine the level of safety standards compliance, PPE compliance and requirements and provide safety coaching.
- Liaise with other sections within the Department to ensure integrated operation of the department and to achieve stated objectives.
- Monitor progress of incident and other safety non conformances related corrective actions close out.
- Maintain and manage all OHS related systems and ensure that they provide statistical analysis for improvement.
- Maintain a pro-active approach to all aspects of operational safety and encourage teamwork within the department.
Supervise and coordinate all UG OHS & Training issues.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Diploma in any professional discipline from a recognized institute in Tanzania.
- NOSHC Certificate or Certificate IV in Health and Safety.
- Investigation Methodology ICAM/RCA (or any other incident investigation tool)
- Occupational Health & Safety Data analysis Interpretation.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum of 4 years mining experience in both Open pit and Underground.
- Must be with Underground Operation experience in all aspects of Safety.
- Must have an experience and participated in the Emergency Rescue Team for both Open and Underground Rescues.
- Experience in ISO 45001:2018 implementation and certification auditing.
- Understanding of Legal acts and regulations related to Occupational Health and Safety.
SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
- Able to show initiative and take responsibility for safety programs.
- Knowledge of Safety and Health Management Systems and ISO 45001:2018.
- Experience in accident /incident investigation and developing corrective actions.
- Possession of valid Tanzania driver’s license and having Driver’s competency.
- Ability to implement plans and achieve goals.
- Ability to interact with other departments, contractors, Project Managers and safety personnel.
- Possession of good written and oral communication skills in English and Kiswahili languages.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point and MS Outlook.
