The National Identification Authority (NIDA) has launched an Online Registration System,through which applicants can apply for National Identification Cards.

The system enables applicants to perform pre-enrolment through the online platform from anywhere without having to visit NIDA registration offices.

After completing the online form, the applicant must print and submit a copy to the village/street Executive officer to confirm his/her residency, and then take the completed form to the nearest NIDA registration office to finish the process. The office procedures include taking photos and fingerprints, as well as having immigration officers verify the applicant’s citizenship.
The implementation of the online service will reduce the inconvenience of this service for all people and will eliminate the need for multiple physical visits to the offices by bringing registration services closer to them. The system will also reduce the time applicants spend on the registration process and improve the business process by allowing applicants to upload attachments themselves. Furthermore, the system is expected to increase the number of applicants who register for National ID.

Essential Document required during application of National Identity Card

• Applicant’s birth certificate
• A copy of the birth certificate/affidavit of one parent.
• If the applicant’s citizenship is hereditary: verify with a copy of the birth certificate or a copy of one parent’s National Identity Card.
• If the applicant’s citizenship is registerable, verify it with a copy of the applicant’s citizenship (Dossier Number).

NIDA online registration: The National Identification Authority (NIDA) is responsible for registration and issuance of National Identification Cards to Tanzanian citizens and Legal residents. Legal residents are eligible for NIDA card if they are in possession of valid resident permit and valid passport that are not less than six months.

Legal Residents dependents of 18 years and above are also eligible to get the NIDA ID. NIDA ID is the first requirement for business registration in Tanzania for Citizens. Legal residents can use their passports to register their business but they need NIDA ID for general identification.
