The North Mara gold mine is located in north-west Tanzania in the Tarime district of the Mara region. It is around 100 kilometers east of Lake Victoria and 20 kilometers south of the Kenyan border.

North Mara started commercial production in 2002. The mine is a combined open pit and underground operation from two deposits, Gokona (underground) and Nyabirama (open pit).

Job Tittle: Assistant Electrician

Position Description

Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is seeking to recruit a Assistant Electrician to join and grow our team.

Responsibilities 

  • Ensure safe work practices by attending compulsory safety courses and meetings.
  • Wear the appropriate PPE for the task at hand;
  • Assist and conduct incident/accident investigations.
  • Comply with Occupational Health and Environmental Policies, as well as other policies, procedures and guidelines;
  • Assist in Install and maintain of all electrical equipment to reduce unplanned maintenance and optimize availability.
  • Assist in installation of cable and electrical equipment under supervision and direction of electrician.
  • Operate machinery once deemed competent when necessary for electricians to complete daily tasks.
  • Complete required testing and safety checks on specified electrical equipment.
  • Attend to breakdowns and complete necessary fault-finding to assist electrician.
  • Carry out defined and necessary electrical equipment checks.
  • Ensure total adherence to all safety, health and environmental procedures and guidelines as well as all other company policies and procedures.
  • Assist pump fitter when necessary to change mono pumps or equipment.
  • Under the direction of the supervisor, provide appropriate on-the-job training and coaching to less experience personnel.
  • Implementation and execution of all tasks and instructions as instructed by superior.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  

  • Ordinary/advanced level certificate – Form IV/VI
  •  Valid Driving License certificate
  • VETA certificate in electrical field

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have a minimum at least 1 year experience in Electrical works preferable Mining.
  • Mine Safety and health Awareness

SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Excellent communication in English and Swahili, both writing and verbal
  •  Risk and Hazardous identification in electrical.
  • Working under minimum supervision

Responsibilities 

  • Ensure safe work practices by attending compulsory safety courses and meetings.
  • Carry out mechanical repair and preventative maintenance to maintain equipment in a safe and efficient manner to achieve production and cost targets.
  •  Interpretation, access and reading of job specifications and relevant information.
  • Ensuring that the selection of materials for repairs, replacements and inspection comply with the required standards.
  • Correct selection of hand power tools hand, welding equipment, thermal cutting equipment and thermal heating equipment and safety equipment for safe use
  • Understanding of engineering and structural drawings, interpreting sketches and drawings application of measuring equipment, marking, welding terms, codes and symbols and cutting tools
  • Using oxy acetylene welding & cutting, thermal gouging and thermal heating.
  • Interpretation of materials safety data sheets (MSDS)
  • Planning of the logical sequence of welding operations
  • Completion of basic welding, heating and cutting job cards/ work orders, work permit
  •  Carry out fabrication work and corrective maintenance to improve equipment availability, reliability, safety and functionality.
  •  Ensure that maintenance practices result in maximum mill availability. Meeting or exceeding planned mill availability is a Key Performance Indicator.
  • Assist other mechanical tradesmen in maintenance work as required.
  • Complete assigned work in a timely manner with minimum supervision and to an internationally acceptable standard.
  •  Ensure Supervisor and all stakeholders are kept informed on equipment availability status
  • Actively participate in training activities to gain new skills, develop full potential and assume increasing accountability.
  •  Under the direction of the Supervisor, provide appropriate on-the-job training and coaching to less experience personnel.
  • Follow Safe Work Procedures and other maintenance procedures.
  •  Carry out any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor within your capacity without jeopardizing Health and safety.
  •  Ensure safe work practices, i.e. attending compulsory safety courses and meetings, use of required PPE, incident/accident reporting and ensuring total adherence to all Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Policies, as well as other relevant policies, procedures and guidelines.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Ordinary level certificate – Form IV
  • Welding and Fabrication certificate – (FTC, IMTT & VETA)

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • At least 3 to 6 Months experience in similar role

SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Excellent communication in English, both writing and verbal
  •  Hazard identification and Risk assessment
  •  Mine health &Safety Act awareness

  • Responsible for maintaining the equipment, devices, and hardware of the Underground radio system.
  • Responsible for the installation and maintenance of the Underground communication infrastructure.
  • Responsible to ensure that all device components and leaky system properly maintained and kept in full working conditions.
  • Responsible for the installation of radio hardware in Light Vehicles, heavy mini-Equipment (HME) and refugee chambers.
  • Conducting inspection to all refugee chamber to radio communication.
  • Responsible in keeping MIS inventory and leaky feeder spare parts.
  • Carry out other task assigned by UG Electrical supervisor/foreman.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:           

  • Ordinary Diploma certificate /Full technician certificate (FTC) in Electronics/Computer

Science/Telecommunication

  • AutoCAD or drafting skills will be added advantage.
  • Valid driving license for light Vehicle

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • At least 5 years’ Experience in Telecommunication/Industrial electronics
  •  At least 3 Year experience on Underground mining radio Communication is added advantage.

SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Excellent communication in English, both writing and verbal
  • Email and Microsoft office proficiency.
  • Hazard identification and Risk assessment
  • Mine health &Safety Act awareness
  • Leadership Skills
